German Jagdpanzer Ferdinand Elefant 1/100
Jagdpanzer Ferdinand with 8.8 cm Pak 43/2 L/71 and Elefant, which added a better couple, a 7.92mm MG34 bow machine gun and other improvements. Heavily armed, with one of the war’s most powerful, accurate and long ranged anti-tank guns and heavily armored, with 200mm of frontal armor, Ferdinand was one of the classic examples of flawed German engineering. Too heavy for most roads, bridges, tank transporters or recovery vehicles and equipped with a maintenance intensive (even by German standards) dual engine to electric motor pack that was prone to overheat, Ferdinand and Elefant generally could not be recovered or repaired after breaking down in combat or suffering suspension or track damage, especially from mines. Terrible fuel efficiency, even by the standards of heavy armor, combined with a maximum speed of barely 18 mph (30 km/h) resulted in poor tactical and operational mobility. Ferdinand further suffered from poor crew visibility and, lacking machine guns, was helpless against infantry close assault. Elefant somewhat remedied the problem of visibility and poor anti-personnel performance with the addition of a bow machine gun and improved commander's cupola, but still had considerable blind areas due to the central position of the short cupola and large, flat roof.
