US M114 Reconnaissance Vehicle 15mm 1/100
US M114 reconnaissance vehicle with M2 .50 calibre heavy machine gun or M139 20mm autocannon. Entered US service in 1962 as a variation on the M113 APC intended to be a fast, stealthy scout. Service in Viet Nam made it clear that M114 was an utter failure. Despite it's origin in the M113, it was unreliable and under powered and the design of the lower glacis caused the vehicle to get stuck in ditches or obstacles rather than climb out. Protection was also inadequate, even compared to the M113. Eventually refitted with a powered 20mm cannon turret as the M114A2, aka M114A1E1 and withdrawn from Viet Nam but retained elsewhere until, in 1973, General Abrams ordered it retired. Budgetary constraints kept it in service for lack of anything to replace it until 1979.
Each model comes with two turrets, one with an open commander's hatch and one with a closed hatch.
